Common use

Brethine belongs to the class of beta adrenergic receptor agonists, and works as a bronchodilator, that is relaxes muscles around bronchioles and expands the air passages. Brethine may cause high blood glucose and low blood potassium. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice severe allergy symptoms (itching, hives, facial swelling).

Drug interaction

Brethine is known to interact with Catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitors (entacapone), tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline), MAO inhibitors (phenelzine), droxidopa. Co-administration with them may cause life-threatening irregular heartbeat. Risk of diuretics side effects increases in patients on Brethine. Effectiveness of Brethine or insulin is decreased by beta-blockers (nadolol (Corgard), propranolol (Inderal), atenolol (Tenormin), and metoprolol (Lopressor)).

Missed dose

If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or almost time for your next dose. Do not increase your recommended doses. Take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.

Overdose

Symptoms of Brethine overdose are dizziness, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, nausea, nervousness, headache, vomiting. Call your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 20-25 C (68-77 F).
