Common use

Pravachol is a cholesterol-lowering medication which used to treat high cholesterol or to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, or other heart complications in people with coronary heart disease. Precautions

Use Pravachol with cautions if you drink large amounts of alcohol and if your medical history include liver, kidney, or heart disease; a severe infection; low blood pressure; or seizures. Pravachol in combination with alcohol can increase the side effects caused by this drug. If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor that you are taking Pravachol. Pravochol should not be used during pregnancy, becoming pregnant or lactating without doctor's advice. Do not use Pravachol before breast-feeding withour doctor's permission.

Contraindications

Pravochol is not allowed to people who are hypersensitivity to any component of this medication. Do not use it if your medical history include active liver disease or unexplained, persistent elevations of serum transaminases.

Possible side effect

They may include all types of an allergic reaction. Also the most possible side effects include: chest pain; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness with fever or flu symptoms and dark colored urine; nausea, clay-colored stools, stomach pain, loss of appetite, low fever, dark urine, jaundice. Less serious include: mild stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea; heartburn, gas, bloating, upset stomach; tired feeling; headache, dizziness; stuffy nose, cold or flu symptoms; skin rash; general pain. Drug interaction

Pravachol interact with the following drugs: cholestyramine (Questran) or colestipol (Colestid); drugs that weaken your immune system such as cancer medicine or steroids, cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, Gengraf), sirolimus Rapamune), tacrolimus (Prograf), and others; erythromycin (E-Mycin, E.E.S., Ery-Tab, others) or clarithromycin (Biaxin); niacin (Nicolar, Nicobid, Nicotinex, others); gemfibrozil (Lopid), clofibrate (Atromid-S), or fenofibrate (Tricor); an antifungal medication such as itraconazole (Sporanox), fluconazole (Diflucan), or ketoconazole (Nizoral). Also note that interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. As usual it affects the the effect of drugs, so consult with your doctor about how it interactions are being managed or should be managed.

Missed dose

If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or almost time for your next dose. Do not increase your recommended dose. Take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.

Overdose

Symptoms of Pravachol overdose are not known. So if you experience any unusual symptoms call your doctor immediately.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 20-25 C (68-77 F).
